Version Cue Updated to 1.0.1
This is the unformatted text-only version of this page: Version Cue Updated to 1.0.1
Steve_Werner@adobeforums.com 05-07-2004, 07:14 PM Windows users can update to Version Cue 1.0.1
You can download it from this link:
<http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=2572>
Also, be sure to download the ReadMe file linked in the first paragraph of that web page. It has some valuable new information about running a Version Cue workspace.
Mitchell_Small@adobeforums.com 05-19-2004, 07:28 AM Whenever I try to install this update, the process terminates saying version 1.0 is not installed. I do indeed have VC 1.0 installed and running. I've tried the install both from the web and downloading then applying and with VC on and VC off. Same result. Any suggestions?
Eckhard@adobeforums.com 05-23-2004, 12:45 PM That's my problem too.
I could install the update on one computer. But it fails when trying to install it on another PC where CS runs correctly with Version Cue.
heathrowe@adobeforums.com 05-23-2004, 04:21 PM I had the same situation - was certain that I had Version Cue 1.0 installed
and got the same error message that has been posted when I tried to update!!
Weird indeed. So I went to the Control Panel to verify - sure enough there
was no Version Cue applet. No Version Cue Taskbar icon either.
So all I did was pop in CD 1 of the Suite and ran the Version Cue setup file
from within its own folder (I'm using Premium Edition, btw).
Installed perfectly. Then applied the update without a hitch.
I must have overlooked it during the original Suite install, perhaps thats
what happened to you also??
cheers
heathrowe
Eckhard@adobeforums.com 05-24-2004, 03:04 AM For my case I've installed VC on my PC certainly. I'm sure that this installation was successful cause I can use VC. But the update isn't possible cause the error message tells me there is no VC1.0 installed.
That's a lie!
Greetings
Eckhard
Bob_Manjoney@adobeforums.com 05-25-2004, 02:22 PM Is it possible it was installed under a user with Admin rights and you're attempting the upgrade logged in as a different user?
Bob
Eckhard@adobeforums.com 05-26-2004, 01:06 PM No! That can't be my problem. I'm the only user and administrtor to all of my comps and hhe suite was installed on every machine the same way.
Today I've phoned with Adobe support for half an hour. They couldn't offer a solution for now. The task is sent to the "upper support-level" and they'll give me an answer when they find out what's causing this behaviour.
I've noticed that the update was successful on my PC where I didn't use Version Cue til now. But it failed on the others where I've already worked with VC and stored some files in a folder "version cue".
Maybe there's a bug in the update that prevents the installation to VC with data in its folder?!
Eckhard
waiting for an answer from Adobe
Eckhard@adobeforums.com 05-28-2004, 03:14 AM Ok, here is the answer from Adobe:
First you have to start the installation-CD1 of CS, then you should open system-entries > software to change/deinstall Adobe CS (the installation-window of CS opens from CD1).
Choose: Version Cue > Deinstallation.
After then reinstall VC (first close your antivir-programs).
Finally you should be able to install the update to Versin Cue.
Good luck!
Eckhard
Mitchell_Small@adobeforums.com 06-06-2004, 08:27 AM I read Eckhard's reply. What if you can't close your antivirus?
My PC is running Norton Corporate and the local client cannot disable the antivirus. Is there a workaround for that?
Jannik_Brich@adobeforums.com 09-10-2004, 09:05 AM I'm having the same problem as all you guys.
The sollution calling for a deinstallation of Version Cue is just plaine stupid. Imagine the same solution in order to apply SP 2 for Windows XP !!!!!!!!!
Deinstall XP and try again !!! :-(
As tech guy I have never been fond of Adobe's productline. They tend to run VERY unstable with all kinds of strange behavior.
Example: When setting up Golive in order to connect to Version Cue you will crash and burn if using the default syntax in the connection properties. Oh Btw - Golive uses Internet Explorers Proxy settings - I learned that the hard way. Try and try and try again because why write this fact into the manual !!!
Any way - It's unacceptable that a deinstallation is needed in order to upgrade.
What about the site settings ?, logs ?, history ?. Uou just don't run around uninstalling server apps in a production invironment.
Adobe will have to do better.
Jannik
Jannik_Brich@adobeforums.com 09-22-2004, 06:25 AM Just got off the phone with Adobe support. I just spend 15 minutes trying to convince a supporter that Version Cue is not something you intall on the workstation, but rather on a server.
Finally I think he got the message. He asked me if I had read the readme file, and if I could see Windows Server 2003 in there. I had to admit that I hadn't read the file.
He told me that Windows Server 2003 was not in the file, and therefore Adobe did not support it.
That was the end of that conversation.
Nice going Adobe !!!!! When you can't solve a problem - just deny responsibility.
Erik_Piller@adobeforums.com 10-14-2004, 04:59 PM My IT Manager tells me.....
That VC and VC-updater don't work for people on a network where their profiles(/my documents) aren't saved locally.
Version Cue updater is looking for c:/my documents .. but network users with roaming profiles or network saved profiles don't save to this local file. Thus it won't work.
What do any of you have to say about this theory?
xz501@adobeforums.com 10-15-2004, 03:19 PM Too much of a hassle to install the update (seems risky).. It should be an exe that I can download or run an update within the actual application in order to install.
I have to do 10 or so things in a particular order to perform the update.. Very poor process, especially when you pay a premium price for something.
Ishmael@adobeforums.com 01-26-2005, 12:02 PM Was this issue ever fixed? I do indeed have version cue installed and running in my taskbar but the update application refuses to run.
Ridiculous that there is no solution to this dilemma.
Ishmael
Ishmael@adobeforums.com 01-26-2005, 12:31 PM Addendum:
Eckhard has the correct method. You do not necessarily need to have your virus scan disabled to get it to work.
1) Uninstall Version Cue from the Adobe CS installation interface.
2) Reinstall Version Cue directly from the setup files located on the Adobe CS CD #1
3) Run Update patch to 1.01
