xmp sidecar files

This is the unformatted text-only version of this page: xmp sidecar files

Version Cue does not seem to be designed for what I am trying to do. It is SOOOO close though.

One problem I discovered is if I have a raw image file in my version cue db and add keywords to it, the xmp sidecar file is created. However, version cue does not seem to know about this file. It is in the working folder but there appears to be no way to get version cue to notice that it has changed (or been created).

It may be that if I create the sidecar file before I bring the files into version cue, then they would show up in the list and I could somehow get version cue to save a new version but I don't know how that would be accomplished either since the file needs to be open for me to save a new version (I think).

As far as what I was hoping for, it was this: I wanted multiple versions active at the same time. If I have a photograph, I may crop it at 8x10, 11x14, and 12x18. I was hoping those would show up as multiple versions of the same file. Then I could switch and pick out the version I wanted to work on or print or whatever. So... take this memo as two suggestions for the future versions.

I find I can do what I need with just photoshop and doing my own 'version' system by modifying the file names. I may eventually store all these in version cue to allow me to save multiple versions but for now, that is not my focus.

Thanks
