Can't start VersionCue (misc. Java error)

This is the unformatted text-only version of this page: Can't start VersionCue (misc. Java error)

(Obligatory FYI: PBG4, 500MHz, OS 10.3.3, Java 1.4.2, memory 512Mb, disk space is no object)

I can't start Version Cue. When I try (from the Control Panel), I get the following lines in catalina.out:

Error occurred during initialization of VM Incompatible initial and maximum
heap sizes specified

Now I know that this doesn't sound like an Adobe problem; if anything, even I can admit that something sounds misconfigured on the computer and that keeps the VM from starting up. But any help sorting out this mess would be appreciated.

(Should I post my trick for getting Adobe GoLive to preview in LYNX...?)

I was able to reproduce this by setting the Memory Usage (in Control Panel) to less than 128 MB.
Setting the Memory Usage to 128 MB may fix the problem?

No doubt that the Control Panel should prevent the user from specifying a maximum heap that is less than the minimum heap size.
I apologize for this miss behaviour.

That worked, thanks. It's slightly bothersome that I don't know where it actually says that 128Mb is the absolute minumum required to run VersionCue. That may just be me not R'ing TFM.

Its is the system requirements, on the box:

Additional 128MB of RAM required to run Version Cue™ desktop server

By the way, when I talked to Bob Schaffel, the Version Cue product manager, he said that the Memory Usage setting "represents an optimization, not a fixed partition."

I have VC on a G4 Powerbook and a G4 desktop. VC works on the desktop, but in the Powerbook it comes up with "Version Cue could not be started. Please check the Version Cue logs."
The log says "Starting Adobe Version Cue

../tomcat/bin/startup.sh: line 1: dirname: command not found
Cannot find /catalina.sh
This file is needed to run this program".

The file catalina.sh is perfectly clearly in the programme's folder, but is read only. The system suggests I might need the latest version of Java, but this is already installed.

Could anybody help me out with this, please?
