On previous Photoshop Version by clicking Ctrl and a layer thumbnail you could select all the pixels in that layer.
Say you have a a4 Document and a picture 400x300 pixels sitting alone on its own layer, by clicking Ctrl and the layer thumbnail, you would have selected the picture. Now this is not possible anymore.
How come????
Thanks Shirley

The change was made to accommodate the multiple layer selection options.

Try doing that ctrl click on the thumbnail of the layer rather than the name. It now works the same way that selecting the contents of a layer mask does.

And this does not belong in the F.R. section. (and there is an FAQ entry about it...)
