Q: When trying to install Photoshop 7 in OS 10.1.x, the installation process stops with an acess denied error message. What should I do?
A: For computers that only have OS 10.1.x installed
1. Enable the Root account if it's not enabled
To enable root account
a) Log on to OSX system as a user that can administer the machine and go to the "Applications>Utilities" folder on the OSX system disk.
- Launch "Net Info Manager" and select "Domain>Security>Authenticate" from the drop down menu.
- Enter your username and password
- Select "Domain>Security>Enable Root User and follow the prompts to change the password if necessary
- Close "Net info Manager".
b) Go to "System Preferences" and select "Login" and "Login Window"
- Select check box that states - Show "Other User" in list for network user
- Close "Login".
c) Log out of OSX by selecting the apple menu and choosing "Log out..."
d) Log back into OSX as "Other..."
- For Name field enter "Root"
- For password enter the password you set in step 1 (above)
2. Create a new folder called "XXX" in the /System/Library/CoreServices folder. Move the Finder file (it's a 4K file and should say Fake Finder if you Get Info on it) from the CoreServices folder into this new folder.
3. Log out of Root and log back in as a user
4. Run the Photoshop 7.0 installer
5. After the installation is complete, log out and log back in as root, Move the file(s) from step out of the 'xxx' folder and throw the xxx folder away.
