Some filters are greyed out or not available

There are some filters that will only work in 8-bit RGB color modes.

If you have filters that are greyed out, make sure you arent in a color mode like CMYK or LAB. Also, be certain you are working on an 8-bit image.

all this can be checked from the Image > Mode menu.
