Thanks to both for your help. John, the IPTC tool listed will be very useful.

Chris, the CR2 files should support IPTC info directly, although the CRW files have a separate file (.THM) that accompanies the actual raw file and holds all the metadata.

If anyone else has additional insight it would be appreciated... but it looks like these files simply aren't supported at this point.
