It would be great to be able to move pictures loaded into one catalog across to another. This way personal and business pictures taken on the same camera can be seperated

You can separate them when you download from the camera.

Otherwise you can just import the pictures selectively into the other catalog.

Of course you can, but then you have to:
1. make a note of each of their names and folders
2. close the catalogue
3. open the other one
4. locate each single image

Which is of course a lot more troublesome than:
1. select the pictures of interest
2. click move to other catalogue
3. select the catalogue of interest

Not to mention a lot less error prone and easier to undo.

And as far as separating at download goes, you may simply wish to reorganise catalogues and that does not involve downloading at all.

I think you are underestimating how complex this might actually be. All the tagging, collections, version sets and stacks would need to be accounted for.

If you're a "pencil and paper" kind of guy, I guess your procedure would make sense. I would simply use tagging to achieve the result.
