Since my primary interest is wildlife photography usually shot hand held spur of the moment this feature interests me. I've had good results with Sony Camcorders using it. Any experience with cameras such as the Canon Powershot S2 IS (also with 12x optical zoom) and/or thoughts on the subject will be appreciated.

Bob,

I have found the camera reviews at dpreview.com very helpful. Also dcresource.com. Each site also has forums.

We considered the Canon S2IS, but my son decided to buy the Panasonic DMC-FZ5 and he likes it. His subjects are his young children rather than wildlife.

At the time we were shopping it was next to impossible to find an S2IS in stock. We were concerned about the focus (based on reading mixed commments early in the life of that camera). However, by reading the forum threads at dpreview, I think you will find many happy users of the S2IS taking wildlife shots.
