My droplets do NOT work in PS 7.0.1 & WinXP
This is the unformatted text-only version of this page: My droplets do NOT work in PS 7.0.1 & WinXP
Howard_Griffin@adobeforums.com 03-30-2003, 01:40 PM I have tried repeatedly to create a droplet to convert my Canon raw files (CRW format) to JPEGs. I have carefully followed the steps in the tutorial at <http://www.adobe.com/digitalimag/tips/phs7rbrawbatch/main.html>. Nevertheless, when I drag and drop a groups of CRW files onto the droplet icon, I get various results, including a processing of the first file only but not the rest, processing of no files at all, and the locking up of Photoshop requiring an "End Task" command in Windows Task Manager. I have repeatedly created and re-created the droplet and underlying action, but it just won't run correctly. Can anyone give me some advice please? Many thanks.

Howard_Griffin@adobeforums.com 03-31-2003, 03:35 PM I think I have confined this problem to the droplet-creation phase, because the underlying action that I created runs perfectly well when invoked using file/automate/batch. But if I create a droplet that calls this action, then it does not work. Here's what usually happens when I drag and drop a group of files from Windows Explorer to the droplet icon (with PS 7.0.1 already running, too!): NOTHING. Sometimes, the first file will load into photoshop (I see the dialog "reading Canon CRW file" at the bottom of the PS window), and will just stay there -- none of the remaining files will be processed. PS does not close this first file and load and process the remaining files. In fact, PS stops responding and must be terminated using Task Manager. Later inspection reveals that the destination directory contains only the first file, opened and saved as a JPEG. In short, PS chokes on the droplet! Hope someone can help! I could post my droplet .exe file, but I don't know if there is a way to deconstruct it to see where it might be going wrong.

Mark_O_Connell@adobeforums.com 04-08-2003, 07:59 AM HI Howard,
I've encountered the same problem with ver 7.01 and winxp and have posted to this forum also, but with no solution at that time. At least I know I have company. Since I had no luck getting them to work with ps7.01, I decided to use ps 6 for my droplet uses. What was strange is that after I re-installed ps6, created new droplets with it, then closed ps6. When I dropped an image onto the droplet it would open photoshop 7.01 and run the droplet correctly. Go figure! So you might want to try that work a round and see if you have the same results.

Scott_F@adobeforums.com 04-10-2003, 07:24 PM Hi all,
I have the opposite problem to Howard. Droplet raw conversion works (to an extent) but automated batch doesn't. When I run a droplet it converts CRW files fine, but only about 20 at a time. If I try to convert more than this, eg the contents of a directory of 40+, I get a message stating "windows cannot access the specified device. path or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item". But if I run the files through in smaller groups, everything is fine.
Alternately, when I run a batch automation using the same action, it seems to go through the process but there are no outputted files.
I'm using PS7.0.1 and WinXP with SP1. Has anyone had similar problems?
cheers
Scott
Sherry_Darrow@adobeforums.com 05-01-2003, 10:06 PM Hi-
I got a classful of frustrated students because I decided to teach droplets and most of them (and I, now) have PCs. The droplets just don't work.
You are having success with CRW's - what is a CRW?

Sherry_Darrow@adobeforums.com 05-01-2003, 10:08 PM Okay, I see now that it is a Canon file -
Have you tried any other formats?
Is this just going to work on Macs?

dave_holzemer@adobeforums.com 07-08-2003, 12:40 PM Hey All,
Just to let you know I am haveing a problem with Ps7.01 Win XP as well. I'm not trying to do the CRW files, just a basic droplet. I can run the action inside Pshop, but when I drag a file to the Droplet, photoshop opens and just sits there.
I've even tried the droplets that came with the Pshop CD, you'd figure at least they would work. But same problem.
Just wanted to let you all know your not alone in this.
Dave
Miguel_Garcia@adobeforums.com 07-10-2003, 04:05 PM Are you guys dragging files? or folders? Also, what are your droplet settings? I had this problem as well, but have since been able to do a droplet of C.R just fine.
phil_vouers@adobeforums.com 07-12-2003, 09:00 AM you should be dragging folders not files. Under ps7, and ps6 with win98se I would crash everytime I tried to drop more than 9 files on a droplet.. until I figured out that I should have been dragging the folder to the droplet.. then everything worked fine.
Mark_O_Connell@adobeforums.com 07-27-2003, 04:47 PM Hi everyone,
I've been talking about this problem with PS7 and Win XP, and Win2000 also, not provcessing droplets but no one at Adobe seems to want to listen. At least I know now that I am not the only one that has had the same difficulty. I decided to keep a copy of PS6 on my hard drive and I run all my droplets without any problems on it.
Thanks
