I guess this question would be best answered by Thomas.

I'm planning on getting another laptop for location shooting with my
Nikon D1.

I'll be using CR to convert to tiffs on location and burn to a CD.

I'm trying to decide between the 12" iBook and the 12" Powerbook.

As of this morning the iBook has been bumped up to 900mhz and the
Powerbook is still 867mhz. They both have a RAM limit of 640 MB the same
combo drive and firewire and ethernet speeds. The only other difference
is that the Powerbook has a slightly faster bus at 133mhz compared to
the iBook at 100mhz. I like the fact that the iBook is a little more
rugged then the Powerbook as I'll be doing a lot of outdoor shooting.

So my question is is there enough of a performance gain in the
processing of RAW file to justify spending another $500 on the Powerbook?

Also, would this be the right place to post CR feature requests or
should they be post in the Photoshop request forum?

Hi Jeff
Thanks for the answer.

I guess I'll have to run down to the local Apple Store and see if I can
get them to let me run a head to head to see if the speed difference
justifies the price.

As for the feature requests I have two.

1) a curves adjustment in CR

2) a way to save the file directly to disk from CR without it opening in
Photoshop in standard file formats.

I would also love to see CR work like MacBibble, Nikon Capture 1, or
Kodak Photodesk does in that they allow you to set individual
adjustments for each image in a folder and then select all and have the
individual adjustments applied to each image output in a batch.
Currently we have to open, adjust, wait for the image to open in PS, and
save. Too many steps when you're converting hundreds of unique images at
a time. The way it works now is fine for a few images or if you have a
large number of images all taken under the same conditions, but try to
output an entire wedding that way. I'm still using MacBibble to output
for proofs even though I think CR has better color because I can walk
away from the computer while MacBibble runs the batch, not to mention
the extra wear and tear on doing all those extra saves in CR.

Thanks Ian

I've seen that movie already.

CR allows you to apply the same corrections to a batch of images.

MacBibble and the other programs I mentioned allow you to apply
different settings to each image and then save them all in a batch. A
very different thing.
