I have a two hour video project with subtitles, and things were going along smoothly until, on the third subtitle track I decided to click on the faux bold effect down along the bottom. My project started using memory like crazy. My memory usage junmped from about 700 MB to over 1700 MB! Not only that, but I was no longer able to build a DVD.

I started a new project, thinking my project was corrupt, and wasn't able to import any of my subtitle text files correctly (the import preferences are sticky, and carry from project to project). The error message didn't help: General Error!

I'm happy to have found the problem and just hope this post will save time for other folks, too.

Yup, Faux Bold and Faux Italics can cause memory usage spikes when used with subtitles. It's a known issue covered in the Encore 2.0 Release Notes.

Using the Faux settings is fine for individual words or for a smaller amt. of text, but if you're importing long subtitle scripts, you should use a font with built-in Bold and Italics typefaces.
