How disappears? You can't find the cursor or it's gone from the Toolbox?

Press the B key and keep tapping it while watching the toolbox (be sure you are in full edit, or you won't see it--it's not in the quick fix toolbox).

If you have an electronic tablet, move your mouse and stylus away from the tablet. When they are on or near the tablet Elements thinks that's what you are using instead of the brushes.
