Sony A100 supported in ACR?!
Good news from this post at dpreview: http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/r...thread=18751680
"By the way - ACR 3.4 converts A100 files! No new update needed."
They are not shooting DNG, from the specs, therefore they would have collaborated with Adobe (and Thomas Knoll) prior to launch time?

Re: Sony A100 supported in ACR?!
Yes, Sony and Adobe worked together to get preliminary support for the A100 into Camera Raw 3.4 and the DNG Converter 3.4. We will update this to official support in a future release, most likely 3.5.

Re: Sony A100 supported in ACR?!
Goes to show what can happen with only a LITTLE help from a camera maker, huh - maybe Nikon and Canon might learn a thing from Sony? Considerably different than the situation Canon caused with the 30D...

Re: Sony A100 supported in ACR?!
eye feel it's more of a testament to Sony's organized workflow. most Sony product launches I've seen are well organized events as opposed to Nikon and Canon often tweaking things up to the last moment. perhaps it's because Sony has better control over their resources that they can be this pro-active? in any event it's refreshing.
the obvious solution would be to write a DNG straight out of the camera, but from my sources inside nikon, they're hesitant to do this yet--as it would appear most other camera vendors are-- including Sony.
<sigh>

Re: Sony A100 supported in ACR?!
Thanks for the confirmation, Thomas.
If I remember correctly, the last time it happened was with a Pentax camera. Are there other cases?
It sure is refreshing from the part of a large manufacturer, and it is really added value to the camera. Clearly, the big two (and others) should follow the lesson!

Yes, there are other cases of camera makers working with Adobe. Some of this is under NDA, so I cannot give a complete list.

Re: Sony A100 supported in ACR?!
Let's not forget - the 3.4 DNG Converter also supports the Sony A100.
I have just tested that the following products will handle its DNGs (both default and Linear), although not (of course) the native raws:
ACR 2.4, hence PS CS; IrfanView (3.98); Silkypix (2.0.18.1).
The power of cooperation PLUS proper support for DNG!

Re: Sony A100 supported in ACR?!
Barry, I think any product that uses DCRAW as the conversion
engine will work, not just Irfanview.
And of course DCRAW itself...

Re: Sony A100 supported in ACR?!
"I think any product that uses DCRAW as the conversion engine will work,

I hope so. But IrfanView is the only one I had available. (I'm sceptical about anything until I've tried it for myself!)
"And of course DCRAW itself"
The latest dcraw (8.21) supports the A100 via its native raws, as well as via DNGs. But earlier versions (I also have 7.30) only support it via DNGs. I guess IrfanView 3.98 doesn't have the latest dcraw built-in.
Now, if only I could find a copy of Pentax Photo Browser 3 to see if it really can convert K100D PEFs to DNGs as one announcement stated! (I downloaded a couple of such PEFs from a forum - and the latest dcraw converted them! But I suspect it uses an incorrect colour profile. And 3.4 doesn't handle them).
