Default Aptus 22 and 75 support

I have two problems to address...

My aptus 75 files are recognized in Bridge (ACR 3.4), I can adjust them in Camera Raw, but when I close the camera raw window the images revert right back to their camera settings-previews. The same happens when they open in Photoshop. I have only been able to convert them by first converting to DNG. Is there a fix for this?

Also, I have been working with the Beta Leaf Capture 10.0.3. When shooting tethered, the images from the Aptus 22 show up as unreadable by ACR 3.4 ( not even thumbs appear). This is not the case when shooting to CF cards.

OSX 10.4.7
ACR 3.4x89
CS2

If anyone can help, thanks,

Eric

You need to use either the "Open" button in ACR or the "Done" button.

Thank you Ramon,
I understand how ACR works. I have adjusted and processed thousands of files with ACR. With the Aptus 75 files the same thing happens whether I click "open" or "done". The adjustments I made to the image in ACR such as white balance or exposure do not stick.

I have just tried to convert the Aptus 22 I aquired tethered with Leaf Capture 10.0.3 and the DNG converter stated that it was an unsuported file type. Images shot on CF cards from the same Aptus 22 work fine.

Ah, I misconstrued your post then. Sorry.

I'm having the same problem with the loss of adjustments once I open the Leaf .MOS file in PS. Using PS 9.0.1/Bridge 1.0.4.6/ACR 3.4/OS 10.4.7 with both an Aptus 65 & 75 both before and after updating the firmware with that from Leaf Capture 10.0.3. Tested on a Power Mac G4, G5, and an iMac G5.
With these computers, files shot tethered DO open properly in Bridge/ACR and they do retain color/exposure adjustments. Untethered files do not.
A workaround is to change the Camera Raw prefs to save image settings in the Camera Raw database rather than use .XMP sidecar files but this makes moving the files from one computer to another problematic at best.
Also, converting the Leaf .mos files to DNG then allows the plugin to work normally.

Eric,

I can’t comment on your question about losing adjustments. It does not seem to happen with the few Aptus files I have (Windows).

But the second question might be because you are saving the files as compressed when shooting tethered. ACR does not support Leaf Aptus compressed.

Just a comment and an opinion, but I found the images to be much sharper and cleaner when processed by the Leaf software.

Cheers, Rags :-)

Thank Rags,

In the last few minutes the official 10.0.3 was just released, so more testing is in order. I am shooting uncompressed. Shooting tethered and compressed is not an option, but on the Luminous forum Yair said the Aptus 22/tethered issue will need to be fixed by Adobe (which they are aware of).

Thanks for your comment. I like the PK sharpening better for the captures. I don't feel incontrol of the leaf software for image processing yet. There are no Color temp/Hue sliders. I can't adjust the clipping or shadow clipping.... I have just gotten so used to the ACR adjustments and with the Fors Calibration script I am getting very nice colors. Are you a regular Leaf shooter? Do you find the adjustments in the leaf software sufficient?

Thanks,
Eric

Eric,

I don’t own any Leaf equipment. And I am a Windows user, not Mac. I wish I could afford all of it.

But I do spend quite a bit of time on scripts for calibration and workflow automation. And too much time on technology in general. I got my Aptus images at a local mini trade show. And the kind folks running the show spent a few minutes showing me the basics of the Leaf software. One of the demo images was a shot of jewelry. I got both the raw file and the processed TIF. My observations were from looking at the same image after opening the raw file in ACR. They were not based on any assessment of color accuracy. But I could see a lot of color crossover in the gem facets (highlights). Anyway, it was only my personal and subjective observation. I really am a big fan of Adobe.

But sometimes the right tool for the right job seems in order. I wouldn’t spend that kind of money (and switch to Mac) then cavalierly discard the tools. But I mean that in a friendly manner, not contentious.

That said, I would like to ask you for a favor. I don’t have a very good Macbeth CC image from either camera. If you can help me, please contact me offline. I’ll let you know where you can drop the raw images.

Cheers, Rags :-) rags@compuserve.com

I have encountered the same problems. I shot a session yesterday tethered with Capture 10.0.3 (Macbook pro).

I was unable to open these files with PS CS2 9.0.1 on my Windows machine. I was able to open the files on my Mac machine with PS CS 9.0.0 and start editing them.

Unfortunately Adobe updater updated my Bridge and CS2 to 1.03 and 9.0.1 from that moment on my .mos files were no longer recognized by CS2.

Major bummer since this was quite an expensive shoot and now I need to do a conversion to Tiff from capture 10.0.3 first.

DNG converter does not work either. Removing and reinstalling CS2 did not help strangely. I certainly hope this will be resolved soon.

For the moment I have switched back to leaf capture 8.4
