Since the gtk2.2 + is required on AIX5.3 to use the 7.0.9 reader on the AIX box, I download it from <http://www-03.ibm.com/servers/aix/products/aixos/linux/download.html>

The following gtk is what I used

gtk2 2.8.3 License RPM Source The GIMP ToolKit (GTK+), a library for creating GUIs for X.

But when I try to install this gtk in to my AIX box, the following errors are found :

I am really curious that why so many librarys are needed for the gtk. I need to download them one by one?

GTK library has its dependencies on GLib, ATK, Pango, JPEG, PNG and TIFF libraries. If you install these all the other mentioned dependencies whould be resolved automatically.

The reaon for the dependence is that GTK is a complete UI toolkit with support to all kinds of functionalities like accessibility, image rendering, etc. The above mentioned libraries provide those extensions for GTK to utilize.

Also, there is an application called 'yum' which manages the rpm downloads - it downloads and installs the dependencies automatically. You might like to download its sources and build them on AIX (generally the builds are available for Linux only). I did that once and was able to use it properly on AIX.

I was able to load all of the dependencies except for the following 2:

rpm -ivh xcursor-1.0.2-3.aix5.1.ppc.rpm
error: failed dependencies:

rpm -ivh pango-1.10.0-2.aix5.1.ppc.rpm
error: failed dependencies:

libcairo.a(libcairo.so.2) is needed by pango-1.10.0-2
libfontconfig.a(libfontconfig.so.1) is needed by pango-1.10.0-2

Where can I find these libraries?

The download page you used at <http://www-03.ibm.com/servers/aix/products/aixos/linux/download.html> does have the links to these dependencies as well (Xrender, Xft, cario and fontconfig). Did you try installing those?
