Cannot convert any Microsoft Office documentinto PDF with Adobe reader
I have been experiecing a problem with Adobe Elements 7 and Adobe Reader 8.1. Whenever I try to convert any Microsoft Office document into PDF i receive the error message "there was an error opening this document. The file cannot be found".
In all Microsoft Office products I have a toolbar to convert the document into a pdf file. When I click on the Adobe Elements icon within the Microsoft Office package it starts to convert the document into PDF. Once completed it will try and launch Adobe reader 8.1 to view the file but instead this is where i receive the mentioned error message
It seems like Adobe Elements saves the file correctly but then it automatically launches Adobe Reader 8.1 which is when the error is received. I know this is a problem with Adobe Reader 8.1 as I have installed Adobe Reader 7.0 and it works fine. I am able to select File>Print and selecting the Adobe PDF printer and it actually opens up successfully.
I am currently running Windows XP SP2 with Microsoft Office 2003 SP2 and Adobe Elements 7.0. I have read many forums but have not come accross any fixes as yet
Please help

Re: Cannot convert any Microsoft Officedocument into PDF with Adobe reader
I logged a support call with Adobe and they have now submitted this as a bug report and they will look at fixing this in a future release (but can't guarantee any fixes).
8.1 was a release to provide compatibility with Office 2007 and Vista, and their recommendation to me was to just use 8.0.
My advice is that you use your support contracts to get a case logged for this. Feel free to ask them to reference my Case ID 145839222 when looking at this. Not sure if this is just an asian/pacific case ID referencable outside this region, but DO log it, please.

Re: Cannot convert any Microsoft Officedocument into PDF with Adobe reader
Anybody having trouble with Microsoft Word 2003 and Elements 6 since installing Office 2003 SP3?
Since the update, Word hangs at startup for ~1-2 min before opening the doc.
If I look at Applications tab in Device Manager (XPpro SP2), it says:
Microsoft Word -not responding
Microsoft Word -not responding
and then:
Microsoft Word -running
After that everything, including the Elements add-in works ok. Uninstalling Elements solves the problem but reinstalling it causes the problem again. Detect&Repair in Word doesn't help. Excel 2003 doesn't have this startup problem.
Thanks,
Ron

Re: Cannot convert any Microsoft Officedocument into PDF with Adobe reader
Ron,
I wouldn't be surprised if there is something security wise that is
trying to prevent it from working. I don't have either program since I
haven't upgraded from Office 2000 (It works, it isn't broken, its
compatible with what I run. My bet I'll have to upgrade for
compatibility with Acrobat 9). See if there is some way from within
Office to allow the Elements plug-in to work. Failing that, I'd
recommend re-installing Office, upgrading it all and then re-installing
Elements.

Re: Cannot convert any Microsoft Officedocument into PDF with Adobe reader
Mike,
Thanks. The Elements plug-in actually does work once Word 2003 finally gets going after 1-2 min of "not responding". It's just that annoying lag. When I uninstalled Elements, the lag went away, so it's definiely something about the plug-in.
I reinstalled Elements with Reader 8.0 using the instructions presented earlier in this thread, but still have the same problem. All this seems to have started after SP3 for Office 2003 was installed, but it's only a problem with Word 2003. Both Excel and PowerPoint open with the plug-in installed without any delay.

Re: Cannot convert any Microsoft Officedocument into PDF with Adobe reader
Hello there,
I have a similar problem, trying to conver any document into PDF with Adobe Professional 6 I get a printer error.
I have installed this on Windows Server 2003 in French (SP1) and I have problems printing documents into PDF, I have tried as well on Windows Server 2003 in English (SP2).
Have anyone experience something like this before?

If you have Acrobat Professional please try the Acrobat Windows forum.
However, it is NOT for server use.

Re: Cannot convert any Microsoft Officedocument into PDF with Adobe reader
You should not have both Elements and Acrobat (Professional?
Standard?) Uninstall the one you don't need, and reinstall the other.
