Having trouble with Audition performance?Check these Adobe tech docs
The following Adobe technical documents may assist you in getting the best performance out of Audition 2.0 on your system.
See <http://www.adobe.com/support/techdocs/329242.html> - "Optimize Windows for Adobe Audition (1.5 - 2.0)"
and <http://www.adobe.com/support/techdocs/331631.html> - "Troubleshoot recording, playback, and monitoring (Adobe Audition 2.0)"
and <http://www.adobe.com/support/techdocs/332282.html> - "Troubleshoot Audition 2.0 mixer and automation" which covers best use of the mixer and effects to conserve resources.
The Adobe tech docs are, I suspect, an underused resource by most of us including me. There's a lot there.
<http://www.adobe.com/support/products/audition.html> takes you to the Audition page from which you can search.
<http://www.adobe.com/support/recentdocuments/audition_recent.html> takes you to recent documents which of course are mainly concerned with AA2.0.

Re: Having trouble with Audition performance?Check these Adobe tech docs
Alright..what am I missing? Where is the simple MIX DOWN TO FILE? The "Bounce" feature sticks the mixed down file right back into the middle of the multitrack view. What's with that? Also, what's changed with my VU meters? They lag somewhat. Also..I can no longer get the same db input level. I have changed nothing! help!

Its now called "Export"
Its under the File menu.. After you chose Export you name the mixdown and set some variables (bit rate, etc)

Do check through the FAQs at <http://www.adobeforums.com/cgi-bin/webx?14@@.3bbe12ca> - these include a complete list of what's where in the new version.

I had a problem with the meters which cleared up completely when I started using ASIO4all. No guarantee it will work for you, but try it. Get it from www.asio4all.com.
Cheers,
Alan

Re: Having trouble with Audition performance?Check these Adobe tech docs
If by "lag" you mean program and audio "stuttering" (program stutter has the same symptoms as the "lag" associated with on-line gaming) then perhaps I can offer a possible solution if you use IDE hard drives.
I had no problems with Audition 2.0 after upgrading from Audition 1.0 and 1.5 (which also worked fine). I use an external USB audio interface (M-Audio Duo) but that has little to do with the stuttering that started about 2 months later when I was in the middle of mixing multitrack sessions for my band's demo disc.
All of a sudden, the program "lag" and audio stuttering starting without warning. I spent many hours over a two week period updating drivers uninstalling and re-installing hardware and software, etc. to no avail. I was getting despondent, just watching Audition jerk and lag while trying to playback a session (while the audio was stuttering) and noticed that the program lag, audio stutter AND the hard disk access light were kind of in sync!
The light bulb went off over my head! I went into the Device Manager of Windows XP (Start/Control Panel/System/Hardware/Device Manager) and started to check out the settings of my IDE hard drives. The drives looked normal until I looked at the Advanced or Extended feature tab of the IDE Controller port the drives were connected to (under right-click/Properties). While my boot disk was running "DMA Mode 5" my secondary hard disk (where the audio files were stored) was running in "PIO Only" mode! No wonder it was stuttering! PIO is about 30 or 40 times slower than DMA!
I tried to switch the drive into a DMA mode but it would not budge from the PIO setting. I searched the web looking for a clue and found this page:
<http://winhlp.com/WxDMA.htm>
It explains the whole situation and a number of ways to recover. The easiest method was to remove the driver for the effected IDE Controller channel, reboot and let Windows XP re-install the controller and drives as new hardware automatically. Then make sure the drives are set for DMA access (you want "Ultra DMA 5" if you can get it, as this is the fastest mode) and you are all set.
The "fix" took all of 3 minutes on my system and it went from totally unsable to no problem in that time! Now that I understand the problem and how it gets set AUTOMATICALLY by Windows XP without any warning I'll be checking this periodically, even before I have these symptoms again!
Keep in mind that this problem is not just a working/not working scenario. Windows steps down the performance in steps over time if certain errors occur and problems develop slowly until the IDE devices are switched into the lowest performance mode (PIO Only). This may not be your problem (driver set-up, adware and viruses can cause these sorts of problems too) but it sure fixed mine!

If by "lag" you mean program and audio "stuttering"...
He doesn't - it's definitely the meters, and it's a function of ASIO latency, as far as we can ascertain. If you alter the latency, the degree of lag will alter as well. Usually, increasing the latency by one step improves the situation. The degree of this varies with individual drivers, but as alanofoz says, using ASIO4ALL often clears the symptoms completely.
The DMA issue is interesting, but it's not what was being described by Wayne's question - which is basically a known-about condition.

I was replying to Angelmi's post (performance lag mentioned, not meter lag) not Wayne's post. This forum does not automatically make it clear which post you are replying too!
