Re: adobe bridge
As far as we can tell, it assists in consuming disk space, CPU time, and memory resources. :)
Seriously, it's posited by Adobe as a tool that works outside of the main Adobe apps (Audition, Premiere Pro, etc) to provide a "common access point" for audio and video resources.
Bridge suddenly appeared in the release of Audition & Premiere Pro 2.0, and it seems like it was concieved as an added-value file manager. But it seems only to have added confusion, rather than value, to folks who know what a directory structure and a backslash is. You might just find that if the hierarchical folder structure in Windows doesn't make sense to you, and if you've got the horsepower to spare to get it working, and the time to understand the facilities Bridge provides, it might make managing multiple audio and video projects easier. But your mileage will vary!
Personally, I think my first answer's more accurate, but if you have a dig around in the Premiere forums, you'll find a lot more discussion about who uses Bridge and how.

Re: adobe bridge
what really sucks about bridge is when you go to hit the "undo" button and you hit the "reveal in bridge" which is only about 3 pixels away from the "undo" on my screen and it takes 15 to 20 minutes to "flush out" a copy of the 800MB file you're working on.
I'm still looking for a way to disable it (bridge) I've been renaming and or moving files including the bridge.exe file and it still manages to find itself and open anyway.
what a PITA and a waste of time.
Cheers

Re: adobe bridge
well, I think bridge is mainly provides one thing: licence issue.
I mean, I think somewhere inside, it stores the license info and when I erase that bulky thing of-no-use the trial version does not work! I have downloaded all cs3 applications and installed the trials (which took 30-45 mins per software) and none of them worked...
And I have no intentions of using bridge... adobe bridge just sucks!

Re: adobe bridge
I downloaded all of the cs3 trials and installed them (each took 30-45 mins) yet none worked again after the first reboot!
then I installed some and ersed bridge again again, and same thing happened... and bridge just took half of the time the softwares' installation time...
what is it trying to do?! I think it contains license info and some online registration, etc.
the conclusion: adobe bridge sucks!

Re: adobe bridge
Bridge gives you a rad-mod version of Explorer. I finally found a use for it a couple of months ago: batch file renaming of photos from our digital camera. But in the audio side, I don't use files in enough quantities, nor keep enough of a permanent library, to benefit from Bridge's metadata features. Someone in radio or film with an effects library would probably love it, though.

No, licensing (activation) is registry-based - there's no way that it's stuck inside an executable program. Whatever has caused your trials not to work, it won't be this directly.

Re: adobe bridge
I get a message
Adobe Bridge cannot be used at this time because of licencing restrictions. You must have installed and launched at least one other Adobe application to use Adobe Bridge.
But I have installed and launched Adobe Reader, Adobe Premier Elements 4 and Adobe Photoshop CS2 (which included Bridge).
How do I get to use it?

Re: adobe bridge
Sounds like an update, perhaps to Reader, fritzed your licensing to the older product (CS2 Photoshop). Bad deal!
You may have to uninstall and reinstall Photoshop. If that doesn't work, yell and scream a little to support. And do seach the Photoshop & Bridge forums, as this is not likely to be a unique problem.
