Default Fujifilm S5500 support?

Any clues as to whether this camera is supported (files suffixed .raf)? I've tried downloading ACR2.3 to update from the 2.0 I had in CS but no joy. Files are greyed out and I get an unsupported file format message when trying to open them when showing all files.

eMac, Photoshop CS, camera as above

With the new ACR2.4 the Fuji S5500 is supported. I've downloaded the plugin and tried with some raw-files from my s5500. Finaly a proper way to use the raw-files on a mac.

Hurrah! (The adobe page for the 2.4 raw plugin doesn't mention the Fuji S-5100, the U,S,version of the 5500).

Are you using elements or CS for the Mac?

Also, please forgive the beginner's question, I just want to make sure I understand this properly.

If this plugin works, I will be able to work with / edit the Fuji RAW file, within Elements with in RAW mode, without first converting it to TIFF?

Anything else you'd care to tell me before I buy the 5100 in a few hours, feel free to email me at mannerstein*@*hotmail.com (remove the 2 *'s...)

Thanks in advance, and Happy New Years!

You can apply ACR settings to the RAW files, but they must be converted to PSD, TIFFs or JPEGs for any further post-processing. The RAW files remain untouched, always. The settings are kept only on the sidecar files.

This is the case for ALL supported cameras.

Please come back to the forum to look for replies.

Email responses would defeat the purpose of the forum, which is for everybody to benefit from all questions and answers, not just the original poster.

Thanks for the reply.

Please confirm that this novice understands your comment:

When you write "apply ACR settings to the RAW files," you mean that I can do as described in this brief description of RAW adjustment here,

<http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/adobeelements3/page2.asp>

But I must then save any changes to a PSD, TIFF or JPEG, leaving the original RAW file.

If I understand correctly, this is still better than having no RAW file to edit from, and having to doing my first alterations to a JPEG or a TIFF.

(I need to shoot a lot of residential interiors every week, with one or two / month needed for consumer level printing, one or two per year needed for print ads. I realize this 4 mgp camera is not the same as an S1 or other higher end camera, but it's the only camera saving RAW files that also takes a wide angle lens that I can afford... I am also day-dreaming about QTVR...)

Thanks for the feedback, and a great New Year to all!

Hurray! Good on Adobe for including this model.

In reply to M Manners, I'm using CS. I've found that the camera settings need careful attention and learning to avoid colour casts. Using Fuji's "chrome" setting might give vibrant greenery on nature shots but use it on people at your peril! It makes horrible pinky-green fleshtones, which are however easily correctable in CS by pushing the colour balance sliders into the yellow.

Thank you for that advice regarding color casts.

I hope to pick up the camera this afternoon and will certainly keep your advice in mind.
